Registered Massage Therapy Backed by Clinical Training

Registered massage therapy (RMT) at VanCity Physio goes beyond relaxation. It's a targeted clinical intervention for soft tissue dysfunction.

Surgery addresses the structural problem, but physiotherapy rebuilds the functional capacity needed to return to your activities, work, and sport. Without proper rehabilitation, surgical repairs can be compromised by scar tissue formation, compensatory movement patterns, and muscle atrophy.

Our RMTs use advanced manual techniques including deep tissue work, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and joint mobilization, to address the root causes of pain, restricted mobility, and movement compensation patterns.
Whether you're recovering from a sports injury, managing chronic pain, correcting postural imbalances, or seeking relief from stress-related tension, our therapists bring evidence-based expertise to every session

Integrated Care Model

Our RMTs work alongside our physiotherapists and kinesiologists, creating comprehensive treatment strategies that combine manual therapy with exercise rehabilitation for optimal outcomes.

FAQs About Registered Massage Therapy

WHAT TO EXPECT

At the beginning of your initial session, you’ll meet your RMT to get acquainted and discuss how you’re feeling, along with any specific areas of concern you'd like to focus on.

Your RMT will recommend a treatment plan for future sessions and collaborate closely with other providers on our multidisciplinary team to address your unique needs and goals.

HOW TO PREPARE

Come dressed in appropriate attire so your RMT may have easy access to the area of concern. Whenever starting a new massage treatment program, bring a list of any medications to your first appointment, along with any relevant X-rays and MRIs. If you’re experiencing pain symptoms beforehand, make a note of them and be sure to tell your therapist ahead of time. If you are involved in an accident claim with ICBC, be sure to get treatment approval before your sessions begin.

POST-SESSION

After your appointment, you will receive a PDF document with your exercises and access to our exercise library with your specific registered massage therapy Vancouver program. Post-session recommendations will depend on treatments given. We may sometimes recommend rest, and other times recommend movement. Be sure to consult your RMT before resuming any regular activities.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPY AND GENERAL MASSAGE?

The primary difference between registered massage therapy Vancouver and massage lies in the role of the registered massage therapist. RMT is strictly regulated, and a therapist must complete formal education and pass licensing exams before earning their certification. General massage can be performed by non-registered practitioners without formal certification.

Additionally, general massage primarily aids in relaxation and temporary relief, while registered massage therapy in Vancouver focuses on addressing specific, and often complex, muscle and joint issue for long-term solutions.
