Frequently Asked Questions About Mobile Physiotherapy

HOW IT WORKS

Your pelvic floor muscles bear the important task of supporting your organs (bladder, uterus, and intestines), contributing to healthy sexual functioning, and controling urination and defacation. The proper functioning of pelvic floor muscles means better health and wellness overall. Our pelvic floor physiotherapy Vancouver specialists will collaborate with you to gather information about your history, help you understand the cause behind your symptoms, and provide you with a customized treatment plan that helps you regain control and find the right path forward.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your physiotherapist will conduct an initial assessment and work with you to set personalized therapy goals. Depending on the reason for your visit, you will typically be seen weekly for 3 - 4 sessions, with reassessments scheduled every 4 - 6 weeks until you are satisfied with your progress and your goals are met.
We understand that every client is different, so your pelvic floor physiotherapy Vancouver program will be thoughtfully designed with your recovery in mind.
To better understand the current condition of your pelvic floor, your physiotherapist may suggest an internal examination. However, your comfort and consent is our top priority. You and your physiotherapist will explore assessment and treatment options together to ensure you feel supported every step of the way.

HOW TO PREPARE

Prior to the session, please read and sign the consent form emailed out to you. Come to your session in appropriate attire to exercise. Whenever starting a new pelvic floor physiotherapy Vancouver program, bring a list of any medications to your first appointment, along with any relevant X-rays and MRIs. If you’re experiencing pain symptoms beforehand, make a note of them and be sure to tell your therapist ahead of time.

Masks are manditory for in-person treatment, in compliance with BC's mask mandate. Please read our Covid-19 procedures for more information.

POST-SESSION

After your session, your physiotherapist will discuss an appropriate timeline for regular maintenance of your one on one sessions, and will email you the exercises and advice discussed during your session. If you have any additional questions, you can contact them directly via email.

VanCity Physio offers direct billing.

DO YOU OFFER VIRTUAL CONSULTATIONS?

Yes, many women choose not to have an internal examination at their first visit. You can attend your appointment virtually in the comfort of your own home. Many people will then do their home exercises and monitor for improvement in symptoms. If there is no improvement and we need a closer look at why, then an internal examination is booked at the practice.

A lot of the physiotherapy for pelvic floor is about learning to activate the pelvic floor, both for strengthening and relaxation. This is easily done online as in person. The consultation will offer small life changes and exercises that make a big difference to pelvic floor function.
